How CROLISVA works

How CROLISVA evaluates software

CROLISVA publishes decision support for small businesses choosing software. This page explains exactly how that work is done, including what it does not do, so you can decide how much weight to give anything you read here.

What CROLISVA is

CROLISVA is an independent advisory publication for founders, solo operators and small teams. It covers five areas of business software: AI and automation, marketing and SEO, CRM and sales, email marketing, and websites and online business. Each area is organised around the decision it really turns on and a short list of criteria, published on the area page, that every product in it is weighed against.

Two kinds of page sit on top of that. Product records and evidence-backed guides state what a provider publishes, with the source and the date it was read. Editorial guides, like this one, are CROLISVA's own method and reasoning, and contain no product facts at all.

Method

What an evaluation is — and what it is not

A CROLISVA evaluation is built from sources CROLISVA has read itself, above all the provider's own pages: its home page, its feature pages and its pricing page. Each fact is stored with the address it came from, the day it was read, and the provider's words quoted exactly.

Nobody at CROLISVA has used these products as a customer. An evaluation restates what checked sources say and draws conclusions only as far as those sources go. It is not a hands-on review, and CROLISVA does not describe it as one. There are no star ratings, overall scores or user reviews, because there is no method behind them that CROLISVA could stand behind.

Method

How evidence is sourced and kept current

A scheduled research job runs every day. It re-reads sources as they come due and checks that the phrase recorded from each page is still on it. Only a fact whose phrase is still there is renewed. One that is not is left to age out, and if the page now contradicts it, it stops counting as confirmed.

How long a confirmed fact is trusted depends on how quickly a provider can change it without telling anyone:

  • Pricing and free plans current for 30 days, out of date after 90.
  • Integrations and platforms current for 90 days, out of date after 180.
  • What a product does current for 120 days, out of date after 365.
  • What a product is current for 365 days, out of date after 730.
  • Anything else current for 90 days, out of date after 180.
Method

When a product counts as evaluated

Products CROLISVA is still researching are listed and labelled "research in progress". A product is published as evaluated only when its record passes every one of CROLISVA's publication gates. Among them:

  • the essential facts — what the product is, what it does, and what it costs — are each confirmed by a source CROLISVA has read;
  • at least 2 verified sources are on the record, and at least one is the provider's own;
  • its strengths and its limitations are both recorded, and who it suits and who it does not;
  • no verdict goes further than the facts confirmed for it;
  • any disagreement between sources on a decisive fact has been settled, with a reason.
Method

What the confidence label means

Every evaluated product shows a confidence level, derived from its evidence rather than chosen by anyone. High means the essential facts are confirmed, nothing has gone out of date, and at least 60% of the material facts are confirmed. Moderate means the essentials are confirmed and at least 35% of the material facts are. Anything less, or any confirmed fact past its date, is Low.

Products that have not reached evaluation are kept out of search results, and so is an area page with nothing evaluated in it, because a page with nothing checked on it would only be a placeholder.

Method

How guides stay true

Evidence-backed guides are composed from current facts each time the site is built, not written once and left. Pricing older than 90 days and other evidence older than 180 days is not used. If too little remains for a guide to answer its question, it says it is unavailable and is withdrawn from search until the evidence returns.

At least 50% of every evidence-backed guide must be CROLISVA's own words rather than quotation, so that a guide explains what the facts mean instead of repeating the provider.

CROLISVA analysis

How commercial relationships are kept separate

CROLISVA may earn a commission when someone signs up through some of its links. Which programmes those are is stated on the Disclosure page, and a link that can earn is labelled wherever it appears. A product with no approved programme is never given a commercial link or promotional treatment.

The parts of CROLISVA that evaluate, compare and recommend do not use commission data to reach their conclusions. Automated tests check that the Advisor gives identical advice however large a commission is, and that an evidence-backed guide composes the same body with or without a commercial relationship. Placement on CROLISVA is never sold, and nothing on the site is sponsored.

Method

Who CROLISVA is for, and what it does not claim

CROLISVA is written for people choosing software for a small business without a procurement team: founders, solo operators and small teams who make the decision themselves and live with it. The guidance assumes limited time, a limited budget, and nobody whose job is to administer the tool afterwards.

It does not claim to have tested products, to know which product is best overall, or to know your circumstances. It does not rank products against each other or publish scores. Prices are shown as each provider publishes them, and a product page says when CROLISVA has not read the provider's page for your country. Nothing on CROLISVA is legal, financial, tax or accounting advice.

Method

Corrections and out-of-date information

If something on CROLISVA is wrong, use the contact form and choose "Something on the site is wrong", naming the product and the claim — or write to contact@crolisva.com. A correction is checked against the provider's own page. If the record is wrong it is changed, and the page shows the new read date.

Out-of-date information is handled by the same rules as everything else: a fact past its window is shown as out of date or dropped, an evaluation with an expired fact drops to Low confidence, and a guide that can no longer be supported is withdrawn rather than left standing.

Method

How to reach CROLISVA

Questions, corrections and privacy requests go through the contact form, which asks for a reason so each one reaches the right queue, or by email to contact@crolisva.com. CROLISVA does not publish a postal address; the operator statement at the end of this page says who operates it.
